Getting ACH Information from a Check or a Deposit Slip
Check:
Deposit Slip:
- ACH stands for Automated Clearing House, which is a network used for processing electronic payments from your checking or savings account.
- Routing number identifies your bank. It's 9 digits long and is usually the first number printed along the bottom.
- Account number identifies your checking or savings account. This varies in length from bank to bank, and is usually the second number printed along the bottom.
- The third number printed along the bottom of a check is usually the check number. This is not needed for ACH payments.
- Savings deposit slips often have no account information printed on them. In this case you'll need to get your routing and account numbers by calling your bank or looking at an online or paper statement.
- Most non profits prefer ACH donations to credit card donations, because there are no transaction fees with ACH.
