Tuesday Morning Enrichment: Practical Mysticism
PRACTICAL MYSTICISM: PATHWAY TO GOD
Join us to discuss the book “Practical Mysticism” by eminent theologian and modern day mystic Evelyn Underhill, led by Lalor Cadley and Dorothy Brooks. Underhill contends that intimacy with God is the goal of the Christian life. Our journey begins by developing an expanded attention to and awareness of reality, one that poets and artists strive for, and one that is available to the ordinary person who wants a deeper spiritual life. For those interested in joining the group, please purchase the book beforehand and read the first section before our gathering June 9 so we can "hit the ground running!"
Dorothy Brooks’ poetry has appeared in numerous literary journals, including Atlanta Review and Poet Lore. Her poetry collection, A Fine Dusting of Brightness, was published in 2013 by Aldrich Press. She is a gifted adult educator who lives with her husband in Southwest Florida where they enjoy sailing in the coastal waters of the Gulf.
Lalor Cadley is the director of Chrysalis Center, a spirituality center offering spiritual direction, discernment circles, and retreats. Her book Tiny Trumpets: Reflections on Life and God and Grace will be published in the Fall. Lalor has taught in the Tuesday morning book groups at Ignatius House and partners with Cathy Crosby every Fall for a 12 week course at IH on the Ignatian Exercises. Lalor lives in Lake Claire, and has two grown sons, one a contemplative residing at Green Bough House of Prayer, the other an urban artist.
