Day of Reflection (Thomas Merton)

January 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Merton, one of the most renowned Catholic authors of the 20th century. Merton, a Trappist monk, made contemplative prayer and meditation accessible to the average person, and eloquently charted the links between spirituality and justice. Today's day of reflection will combine silence and reflections on some of Merton's insightful words about the inner life and the transfiguring presence of God in our lives.

Carl McColman is a Lay Cistercian of the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, GA. He is the author of several books on the spiritual life, including Answering the Contemplative Call and The Big Book of Christian Mysticism.
