Day of Reflection for Those Impacted by Cancer Day of Reflection for Those Impacted by Cancer Join us - Saturday, August 23, 2014, 9:00 am-3:00 pm Dealing with cancer can be scary, stressful, exhausting and overwhelming. This day of reflection seeks to offer a time of rest and renewal for those of us who have been impacted by cancer. The day is designed for cancer patients and care-givers, whether you are currently dealing with cancer or have had to deal with it in the past. The Day of Reflection will teach tools that may help you reduce stress, increase your sense of well-being, and potentially improve your clinical outcomes regarding cancer. The tools offered are drawn from the spiritual and scientific practice of mindfulness meditation (present moment, non-judgmental awareness). Several clinical research studies have demonstrated that some mindfulness practices can: Reduce stress by decreasing stress hormones and inflammation markers Reduce anxiety, depression and rumination Increase your ability to manage pain and other health conditions while boosting immune function Increase cognitive functioning, creativity, insight and mental clarity Increase emotional resilience by activating positive emotion circuits Increase serotonin levels, supporting positive mood, better sleep and digestion Retreat participants will experience guidance in mindfulness meditation skills, mindful yoga movements, group dialogue, periods of silence, rest and relaxation, and two delicious and nutritious meals. Facilitator: Mark Dannenfelser: Mark A. Dannenfelser, LPC, is founding director of the Mindfulness Center of Atlanta. He is a licensed professional counselor in private practice and an adjunct lecturer in the graduate theology program at Spring Hill College. He is a retreat director, a certified spiritual director, a registered yoga teacher, and a Contemplative Outreach commissioned presenter of the Centering Prayer method.
