Substance Use Disorders in Primary Care- A Free CME Event for Primary Care Providers

Join Health Share of Oregon and the Northwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center for a full day of actionable and relevant continuing medical education on Substance Use Disorders and how you can address them in your practice. Key topics include the neurobiology and psychosocial dimensions of addiction, evidence-based behavioral and medication-assisted therapies, brief intervention skills for PCPs, a window into the world of specialty addiction treatment and substance use disorder in the complex chronic pain patient.

Substance Use Disorders have serious impacts for patients and their primary care physicians.  Abuse of alcohol and drugs worsens short and long-term health outcomes, interferes with the effective management of co-morbid conditions and constrains quality of life for patients and families.  However, of the 22.7 million individuals nationwide needing substance use treatment, only 8.4% received treatment in 2013.  Patterns of ongoing abuse can impact the patient’s interactions with the health care delivery system and the primary care provider’s experience of providing care.
