Medication Assisted Treatment Course Overview Harmful opioid(e.g., heroin, oxycodone and hydrocodone) use and opioid use disorders remains a critical national public health concern. There are several FDA-approved medications to assist in the treatment of opioid use disorders and each of these medications offers individuals a somewhat different approach to the treatment of their opioid use disorder. This training will focus on enhancing treatment providers’ and community members’ understanding of the role of methadone, buprenorphine and oral and extended-release naltrexone in treating opioid use disorders.. The training will provide an overview of the research related to the use of these medications for both adults and young adults, as well as the practical issues related to providing coordinated care for individuals utilizing these medications as a treatment intervention. This training will also provide information about the use of the naloxone (Narcan) in the treatment of opioid overdose and as an overdose prevention tool. When
