Emerging Media Workshop with @ChrisCloud - Feb. topic: Twitter - Pre-registration required

What's Tumblr? Do I need to get a SnapChat? Why is Facebook asking me to boost posts?

These questions and more will be explored at the Emerging Media Workshop with @ChrisCloud -- a monthly workshop designed to help you navigate your way through the online frontier of social networks and platforms. #EMworkshop will help you cultivate the communities you want to grow for your nonprofit, small business, and/or personal projects.

Emerging Media Workshops are held on the second Thursday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Daily Planet office (2600 E. Franklin, Minneapolis; enter from the front of the Wells Fargo bank building, the Triangle Park Creative entrance.) Each workshop will have a different area of focus -- from Snapchat to Pinterest! Workshops start with an overview of the topic followed by a related exercise. The last half will open up to discussion about any emerging media topics or questions you might have.

February's topic for the Emerging Media Workshop is Twitter

There will be an overview of Twitter’s features and services. Some subtopics we might cover:

-Best practices for setting up your Twitter profile.
-Strategies for cultivating your Twitter community.
-Guidelines for writing effective tweets.
-Tweet components and their importance.
-Weekly activities that build your Twitter success.
-Tools and technologies to help excel at Twitter.

We emphasize interaction and the and exchange of knowledge between participants. Because of this, space is VERY limited! We ask participants to pre-register so as to guarantee that space will be available. There is a sliding scale of participation fees. Participation is free for all Daily Planet advertisers and scholarships are available upon request.

Bring your laptop—wi-fi is available.

Our location:

  • Many of our classes and Newsroom Cafes are held at the Twin Cities Daily Planet office (though many are not—see each class listing for location information).
  • Our office is centrally located, but it can be a little tricky to find if you don’t realize that we are in the Wells Fargo bank branch at 2600 E. Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis.
  • Please note that the Daily Planet is located in the same building as it’s always been, but has a new office space! We’re now in the front of the building, not the back, so enter off of Franklin Ave. (not the parking lot.)
  • Free parking is available in the bank’s parking lot.
  • If you’re traveling by bus, we’re right off the 2, 7 and 67 lines.
  • If you’re coming by bike, there’s a bicycle rack just outside the building.
  • To get to our office, ring the bell at the front door, shared with Triangle Park Creative.
