GUANTE: Writing a Stronger Bio - Pre-registration required

Your bio--on your website, in an event program, or on social media--can be your handshake, business card and resume all in one paragraph. How can we make the most of this opportunity and craft bio statements that are concrete and impressive, especially when some of us aren't too enthusiastic about talking ourselves up? This workshop will look at examples of strong bios, and present a "hierarchy of information" that will help anyone-- from hip hop artists to freelance journalists to nonprofit directors-- capture who they are and what they do in a clear, powerful way. Join hip hop artist and two-time National Poetry Slam champion Guante for an interactive, resource-sharing discussion and workshop on these issues and more.

GUANTE / Kyle Tran Myhre is a hip hop artist, two-time National Poetry Slam champion, social justice activist, educator and writer. He and/or his work has appeared on Upworthy, MSNBC, Racialicious, Feministing, MPR, the Progressive, City Pages’ “Artists of the Year” list and URB Magazine’s “Next 1000” list. He's shared bills with Talib Kweli, Saul Williams, Brother Ali, Dead Prez, Sage Francis, Andrea Gibson, Doomtree, Zion I and many more. Guante also founded the MN Activist Project and Hip Hop Against Homophobia concert series, writes a regular column at Opine Season, and facilitates writing/performance workshops for youth.
