CANCELED - More Bang: Social Media & Other Storytelling Tools for Community Organizers, with Cirien Saadeh - Pre-registration required

This class is for those who have taken “Storytelling for Community Organizers: So What?” or have experience in storytelling. Once you have begun writing down your story and gotten more comfortable sharing it, you might ask, “Well what do I do with it now? How do I take this story and share it effectively?” Social media and other media tools, like blogs and op-eds, are an incredibly powerful way to make a big bang with limited effort. Using those tools successfully can, by sharing your story, draw major attention to the work of an organization, community, or individual. This class will teach you to use basic media tools like social media, newsletters, and blogs to share your stories in ways that are strategic, intentional, and powerful. Pre-registration required.

Cirien Saadeh is an organizer and communications professional with statewide non-profit La Asamblea de Derechos Civiles. In the past, she has worked for E-Democracy, in communications, and with The UpTake, as a journalist. She also served as the executive producer for AM950’s “Food Freedom Radio.” A graduate of the Organizing Apprenticeship Project in Minneapolis, Cirien has been active in campaigns around transit equity, food justice, digital access and inclusion, and immigrant justice. She is a writer by trade and a perpetual student. Cirien believes that storytelling is the most powerful tool that community organizers and leaders can develop and leverage to build equity in disenfranchised communities.
