2012 Pick of the Market Dinner The Twin Cities Daily Planet invites you to the second annual "Pick of the Market" dinner on Sunday, September 16 at 6:30 p.m., at Blackbird, 3800 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis.
"Pick of the Market" will be prepared by chef/owner Chris Stevens and his culinary team at the Blackbird Cafe. Their combined culinary experience includes the kitchens some of some of the finest kitchens of the Twin Cities, including Table of Contents, Dakota, Cafe Barbette, Auriga and Spoon River. Celebrating its fifth year, Blackbird Cafe has always focused on local sourcing, partnering with Dragsmith Farms, Hope Creamery, Grass Run Farms, Wild Acres, among others. On the day of the dinner, Chris will shop at local farmer's markets and pick the best meats and dairy from his local vendors to assemble his "Pick of the Market" menu.
The exact menu won't be determined until Chris visits the markets, but we anticipate that the entree will feature short ribs of grass-fed beef from a local sustainable producer. And this year's dinner will include a "meet and greet" starting at 6:30 p.m. featuring local cheeses, vegetarian pates, crudites and traditional charcuterie such as chicken liver mousse, country style pate, pork rillettes, smoked trout and chicken gallantine. If you prefer a vegetarian entree, please specify when you purchase your tickets. Beyond great food, this will be a great chance to meet other Daily Planet readers, reporters and staff members. Last year's dinner sold out quickly, so sign up early to guarantee a seat.
The cost? The cost? Only $45 per person for TC Daily Planet members, including wine (or beer), appetizers and dessert; $50 for non-members. Gratuity is not included. When
