TCMA 2014 Fall Media Forum - Communicating for Impact: Telling Your Story to Make a Difference

Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize--Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, The Danger of a Single Story

This year’s keynote speaker, Nekima Levy-Pounds, has much to say about privilege and the role it plays in determining whose voices and stories are given authority, shared, heard...and not heard--and why it matters. A University of St. Thomas law professor, Levy-Pounds is director of the Community Justice Project, an award-winning civil rights legal clinic, board chair of the Minnesota African American History Museum & Cultural Center, and a frequent media commentator.

Also confirmed: Spoken word artists Kevin YangTish Jones, and Chilli Lor; KMOJ’s Lissa Jones (executive director of the Minnesota African American Museum & Cultural Center); Adja Gildersleve, who will screen Forbidden Fruit: Hidden Gems of the Northside; Youthprise artist-in-residence Nancy Musinguzi; community based photographer and video producer, Hlee Lee; NAVIGATE MN's executive director. Emilia Gonzalez Avalos; artist/activist Ricardo Levins MoralesJohn Capecci, Capecci Communications; Alisha Volante of Socially Conscious Social Studies.

Scroll down to register. Space at UROC is limited and pre-registration is requested. Early registration is highly recommended as we anticipate the event may sell out. Same-day registration begins at 9:00 a.m; program starts promptly at 9:30. Lunch is an option for those who pre-register.

A limited number of scholarships are available - email ciriensaadeh@tcdailyplanet.net to request a scholarship.
