Klein & Roth Consulting’s December newsletter featured five practical tips for year end fundraising, including this one which I would have totally overlooked:

Remind donors of the IRA Rollover provision, which allows people over 70 1/2 years of age to take money out of their IRA (retirement account) to give to a charity without incurring income tax but still maintaining the deduction. This is a wonderful benefit for retired people who have IRAs.

Independent Sector’s web site has more info on the IRA Charitable Rollover.

Database Tip: Can you select a list of people over age 70 1/2, in order to send them a special note about the rollover provision? It’s easy and inexpensive to add date of birth and age to your database. Inquire about list enhancement data services.
