National Coalition Offers Online Clearinghouse of Voter Information
We must be heard
With only 60% of Americans voting in the last presidential election, and millions feeling disillusioned and overlooked, the time is ripe to engage citizens and reinvigorate democracy.
Enter National Voice, a coalition of over 50 nonprofit and community groups working to maximize public participation in our nation's democratic process. Launched in September 2003, the organization counts collaboration among its top goals. With founding members such as MoveOn, Greenpeace and the National Council of Churches, National Voice is positioned to become a premier resource for local and national collaborative efforts.
National Voice uses Technology for Change
On the National Voice web site, individual voters and organizations can access a library of legal and organizing documents, news, and other resources. They can also search a calendar of local events, including voter education, registration, and meetings with like-minded individuals.
Behind all of this is a powerful database…and an exceptionally small staff. thedatabank provides technology that allows members to add their own data, such as events or library items, which are then approved by National Voice staff. “Without sophisticated technology, this would not be possible,” said National Coordinator Mark Ritchie. “thedatabank understood our sense of urgency, and quickly developed the tools National Voice needs to educate and mobilize citizens through our web site.”
