thedatabank hires another lefty

We're happy to announce that our new Client Service Manager, Sue Ponsford, is starting on November 28th.

Sue came to us from MAP for Nonprofits, where she was a circuit rider and network administrator for 6 years. Our resident political hack, she has managed two campaigns, worked on countless others, and served as both a Senate District chair and State Treasurer for the Minnesota DFL party.

In addition to having experience with the political left, Sue is also left-handed.  (thedatabank trivia: 57% of our staff are left-handed, or 63% if you count Bob; compared to around 10% of the general population.)

Sue describes her hobbies as "nerdy" - baking, quilting, crocheting, and skeeball!  She shares her home with two cats and over a dozen pairs of slippers (for guests).

Welcome, Sue!

Welcome to these new clients

Tip du Jour

Not much time left - prepare your year end appeal

Many organizations are preparing year-end fundraising or membership appeals at this time of year.  Save yourself some headaches by consulting this tip sheet:

Mail Merges Made Simple

Sending holiday cards?  Remember thedatabank has a built-in mailing label function.  And it's not just for fundraisers - it's in our Action Alert system too.  Show your activists you are thinking fondly of them this holiday season, and warm them up for legislative activity in January.

What to do with those leftovers

My aunt Lois from Wisconsin is hosting Thanksgiving again this year.  I offered to bring a pie, and she assured me that won't be necessary, since she already has SEVEN pies.  So I guess I'll go with wine: the family favorite, $5 white zinfandel.  (I learned my lesson at a previous family gathering, when a well-meaning relative served my nice Merlot in styrofoam cups with ice cubes.)

Even with seven pies, a 40 pound turkey, and several bowls of the ubiquitous Jell-o, I doubt we will have any leftovers.  My extended family may have questionable taste in wine, but they have powerful appetites, and any leftovers from dinner are dispensed with at the 6:00 snack.

That brings me to the point of this month's blog - what to do if you have a little money left in your organization's budget at the end of the year.

You can put that leftover money to good use by cleaning or enhancing your database.  For $100, you can have all of your addresses (up to 30,000) checked against the US Post Office change of address records and updated.  This is a very popular service near the end of the year, when many nonprofits are mailing a year end appeal or a holiday card.  With the money you'll save in postage for bad addresses, this service pays for itself.

So don't be left out, learn about our Data Services and ask for a quote .

Happy Thanksgiving!

Karen

Just For Fun

This month's link is dedicated to Sue and her crochet habit.

Not enough yarn left to complete your project?

Option 1: send Sue to Lima in search of more.

Option 2: look it up at yarndex.com and order online!  This site has a great seach function.
