Something to sing about

thedatabank would like to welcome the following new clients:

Minnesota Justice Foundation - This organization creates opportunities for law students to perform public interest and pro bono legal services. MJF will be using DonorMax, and thedatabank is developing some customized features for program management.

Food First   - The Institute for Food and Development Policy, better known as Food First, is described as a nonprofit think tank and education-for-action center. Their work highlights root causes and value-based solutions to hunger and poverty around the world, with a commitment to establishing food as a fundamental human right. Food First has selected DonorMax and Powermail for donor relationship management.

Tip du Jour

Harmonizing forms with your web site

thedatabank's secure online forms were used to collect thousands of volunteer sign-ups in the weeks leading up to the election. We get lots of requests for database driven web content - action alert pages serve up issues from e-ActionMax, donation forms that collect information into DonorMax, or event sign-up forms that interact with our Meetings module.

We host these forms for you, and that makes it possible for the forms to communicate with your database (which we also host).

We can design the forms to match the look and feel of your web site. In fact, we can even make a copy of one of the pages on your site, and use that as our template - so that your forms integrate seamlessly with the rest of your web site.

Donors and supporters will feel confident seeing your name and graphics on the page, and you will have an opportunity to convey your "brand" or message. By choosing thedatabank to host the form, you can be sure your supporters' private information is secure and encrypted. And, you save time by minimizing the need for data entry and processing.

If you are interested in online forms, call Karen to find out more. For details on web site integration, have your web site administrator or web designer contact us.

Lift every voice and sing

Back in high school, I sang in my school's show choir, the Choraliers. Decked out in my gold-lame-and-polyester uniform, I danced my way through eastern Wisconsin's nursing homes, gymnasiums and church basements. One year we performed a Disney medley. I auditioned for the big solo, When You Wish Upon a Star. All I got was "Y - because we like you!"

I can still give a snappy rendition of Bear Necessities, but as I write this, I feel inclined to sing a melancholy tune. I'm worried about divisions in our country, and the effects of current policies. It's easy to slip into despair.

But then I think about Minnesota. My home state is still a stronghold for progressive thought and action. And I think about why thedatabank is in this business, and the incredible impact our tools have had when placed in the right hands. And I hit a major chord.

In a few weeks, I will be attending the Minnesota Alliance for Progressive Action annual awards dinner, where two of our clients are being recognized for their good work. I'm hoping that, like last year, we'll all sing We Shall Overcome at the end of the night.

I need to hear all of you sing it.

Karen
