Dear Friend,                                                                                                 June 30, 2014

Last week you received the Small Business Minnesota 2014 legislative wrap up

Thanks to the support from people like you, small business is taking a seat at the public policy table.

The work Small Business Minnesota does affects small business owners in Minnesota. We make up 99% of all businesses in Minnesota. Yet, 99% of business-related public policy continues to favor the 1%.

Please join or renew your membership today so we can keep working for you.

In 2014, Small Business Minnesota:

  • Testified to pass the state's new small business property tax relief. (The state chamber of commerce testified against this.)
  • Met with legislators and other leaders to repeal B2B services taxes. (Before the session began, the Governor signaled that the repeal would take place.)
  • Achieved a lower minimum wage for training periods and small businesses, an incremental implementation, and ongoing annual reviews rather than once-a-decade double digit increases.
  • Supported transportation so we can get employees to work, goods to market, customers to our doors and our future workforce to school. (The state chamber of commerce opposed.)
  • Met with MNsure leaders to discuss the rollout debacle and asked that significant changes be made, many of which were implemented.
  • Supported legislation to bring Internet access to Greater Minnesota businesses.
  • Supported the implementation of public benefit corporations (aka B-Corps) in Minnesota.
  • Supported education efforts that would more closely match education to careers, increase participation of small businesses in internships, broaden STEM and related certificate programs in high schools, and more.
  • Supported efforts to curb the affects of predatory lenders targeting small business owners. (The state chamber of commerce opposed.)

For 2015 we are already looking at ways to support small businesses. Your membership matters!    Please join or renew today.

Sincerely,

Audrey Britton
