Buses Return to Marquette & 2nd Avenues
On December 14, 2009, transit improvements on Marquette and 2nd avenues will be in place — dramatically enhancing express bus service. Customers will save several minutes per trip through downtown. The project advances the reputation of Minneapolis as a great place to work and live. Among the enhancements you’ll see: • New streets with side-by-side bus-only lanes • Bus travel speeds through downtown doubled or even tripled • NexTrip real-time departure signs and larger, more comfortable shelters • Updated street design with improved lighting • New, wider sidewalks and public art The new design of Marquette and 2nd avenues will accommodate about 80 percent of downtown express trips. 2nd & Marquette Detours will end December, 14 2009Buses previously detoured off 2nd & Marquette Avenues will return to regular service on 2nd & Marquette Avenues on December 14th, 2009. Buses will only stop every other blockEach express bus on Marquette and 2nd avenues will stop every other block—not every block like today. More of your time will be spent moving. Bus stops will be organized by a letter system. Each route will serve the stops marked by a specific letter. Stop letters will appear on signs, in printed schedules and in shelters. Stops A, B, C and D will be on Marquette Avenue. Stops E, F, G and H will be on 2nd Avenue. (see table & map below) Inbound/Outbound Bus Stop Assignments:![]() ![]() New bus stop areasMost blocks have two stops and each stop accommodates two buses. Arriving buses will pull into the first available space to board customers. You will be able to board through all available doors. Buses will not load customers in the passing lane. Each bus stop has enhanced transit information specific to the routes that serve the stop, and most bus stops have shelters. ![]() |
