Speak Up for Oregon families and protect our public health

Funding is at stake for the Department of Environmental Quality's Budget

In times of economic uncertainty, making proven investments in Oregon's clean water, unpolluted air and other valuable natural resources are more important than ever.

So why then are legislators considering further cuts to environmental protections?

Oregon's Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has already been cut to the bone; now it's on the chopping block again. Additional cuts considered by the legislature would have serious consequences for the health of our citizens and priceless natural resources throughout the state.

Call or write your representatives in Salem today and let them know you support restoring DEQ's budget back to healthy, functioning levels, starting with no more cuts to DEQ this session!</ba.

Protect Southern Oregon's Farms and Forests

HB 4095 Major Threat to Oregon's land use system

House Bill 4095, a bill that the Oregon Conservation Network has declared a major threat to Oregon's land use system, has been scheduled for a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on Monday, February 6 at 8:00a.m.

House Bill 4095 will gut farm and forest protections in Southern Oregon by allowing the Land Conservation and Development Commission to redefine farm and forest lands in Jackson, Josephine, and Douglas Counties. Under this new policy, farms and forests in Southern Oregon could be re-designated as "non-resource" lands, which would pave the way for new subdivisions and sprawl. This measure would allow for taking of land that has been or is currently used to support local economies, costing Oregonians regional jobs and economic certainty. HB 4095 is bad policy and would add unnecessary complexity to our land use system.

The flexibility that counties need to re-map their lands already exists under HB 2229, legislation that passed in 2009. We need to say no to the gutting of farm and forest protections in HB 4095.

Call or write your legislators today and tell them you support the farmers and foresters of Southern Oregon and ask them to join you and vote NO on House Bill 4095.

Deadline for responding: Please take action by Monday at 8am.

Deadline for action: 2/10/2012.
